What ski boot and ski for beginner?

I'm a beginner and would like to buy a ski boot and skis for my trip to the Alps, Courchevel. I am 5'4, 116 lbs, female. I also have slightly wide feet. Is it possible that the ski shop can widen the boot? Also, what poles do I buy? What brand?

The critical piece of equipment is the boots. Go to a professional shop and spend about 4 hours getting the boots fit to your foot. Buy a pair that is for an intermediate or advanced intermediate skier, you will gain in skills and can keep the same pair for several years. Contact the resort where you will be staying and inquire about a rental package of skiis and poles, for the duration of your trip. Ask to have the skiis tuned, sharp edges and waxed bases. The shop can "press out" a boot for any tight spots. A ski boot must fit tight to be effective. The boots should not hurt, but will be uncomfortable for several days. Wear your boot for 1/2 hour every day before you leave, buckle them tighter as you become more used to them. The buckles shoud close with a sharp click, not a thud.

Save your money for the skiis for another year, rent and use different pairs for the next year.
Reply:if its your first time dont bother buying - you will (hopefully) be out perfoming them really quickly and they arent cheap, if you really want to buy something buy boots but not skiis there is no point buying skiis as a beginner. hire them. you can hire good gear and then when your better you can have a better performance level. I had a nightmare with my boots - i have very odd feet but if you get a good in resort boot shop (do it in resort - they know what theyre talknig about!) and try on all the types, dont settle for second best and get ones they can heat mould to your feet for extra comfort but if your a begineer HIRE IT!!!!
